What happens if I don’t get a thorough cleaning?

Without the thorough cleaning, the build-up remains on the teeth and the bone and gums continue to shrink away from the tartar and the tooth.  This is why patients’ teeth become loose and they lose them over time.  The thorough cleaning for gum disease allows patients to keep their teeth longer, and to avoid tooth replacements such as dentures.
