COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Fixing broken, worn and discolored teeth

There are many options to fix broken, worn or discolored teeth; the simplest option being tooth-colored filling materials.  Tooth-colored filling materials are bonded to tooth structure, to give a more natural appearance.  In some instances, the bond may even strengthen remaining tooth structure.

Other cosmetic options for worn and discolored teeth include veneers and crowns (also known as caps).  Most veneers and crowns are made of ceramic materials that are manipulated to resemble a patient’s natural tooth color, shape and texture.  Veneers and crowns involve removal of tooth structure and cementation of the restoration to the tooth.  The newest technology allows all-ceramic (tooth-colored) crowns to be made without unsightly metal showing at the patient’s gum line.

Whitening teeth and placing whiter crowns on damaged, discolored teeth results in a nice cosmetic effect.
